Redditch Nightstop Donation

Thursday, 1 December 2016

For our Autumn 2016 production of The Witches of Eastwick, performed at the Palace Theatre in Redditch, we bought sets of laundry baskets, tea towels and other items for use mainly in the Dirty Laundry number.

After the show, we donated these items to the Redditch Nightstop charity, who we have supported in the past.

These new items (only used on stage for the show) were gratefully received, and will be distributed to young people at risk of homelessness and in need of support to get them set up in their own homes.

ROS Food Bank Donation

Tuesday, 27 September 2016

On 27 September 2016 we arranged a collection of food items to be donated to Redditch Food Bank.

Not only did our generous members bring along many items of their own, but the Society itself contributed over £200 worth of tins, produce, biscuits and chocolates to the Food Bank that will allow them to make up food parcels and Christmas gift parcels for the needy people of our town.

Sarah Barcham, Project Manager of the Food Bank, came to see us at our rehearsal for The Witches of Eastwick, and was delighted with the amount of goods we had donated, which came to 273Kg in total once weighed in at the Food Bank’s warehouse.

Sarah is pictured with Mark Williams (in his role as Darryl Van Horne) surrounded by the items generously donated.

Children in Need Collection

Friday, 23 November 2012

We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the audience (and company) who contributed so generously to our collection for Children in Need at the performance of Summer Holiday on Friday 16 November 2012.

In all, we raised a whopping £187.50. Which was duly paid in to Children in Need the next day.

Big thanks must go to Simon and Nathan who organised the collection, and stood so diligently in the foyer with their collecting buckets!

Charity Donation to Redditch Nightstop

Thursday, 12 April 2012

Redditch Operatic Society has donated over £200 worth of goods to Redditch Nightstop, a local youth homelessness prevention charity.

The goods, including vital bedding and household supplies, were presented to Project Manager Gill Groom of Redditch Nightstop by Tony Jay and Jean Chalk on 4 April 2012.

Over the past 20 years, ROS has donated (or generated through our concert tours) over £26,000 to local charities in Redditch.

Chairman, Tony Jay, said: “One of the Society’s objectives is to assist charities with donations from time to time. Being a Redditch company, we particularly like to support local good causes. Redditch Nightstop seemed like a most worthy cause: it is not only based in our town, but supports young people which, in our own way, we especially like to do.”

Redditch Nightstop provides a wide range of services to 16 to 25 year olds at risk of homelessness, relying on charitable donations from the public and businesses.

The photograph shows Jean Chalk (Secretary) and Tony Jay (Chairman) presenting a selection of the donated goods to the Nightstop team, at their offices based at the Ecumenical Centre in Redditch town centre.

Charity Donation to Special Olympics Redditch

Wednesday, 30 September 2009

Redditch Operatic Society is extremely proud of our support of local good causes. In fact, in the past two decades the Society has generated over £26,000 in donations to individual appeals or from the profits of our concert tours.

In 2009, as well as donations in memory of departed friends Margaret Rea, Mavis Yates and John Emms, we made a special £250 donation of sporting equipment to Special Olympics Redditch.

Special Olympics is an all year round national and international programme of sports training and competitions. Their aim is to support the development, help build the confidence and encourage the participation in new sporting skills of people with varying special needs.

The Redditch group meets on Monday evenings at Trinity High School. Any visitors or new members are welcome. For information on Special Olympics Redditch contact Elaine Daykin on 01527 542831.

ROS are delighted to support such a worthy local cause, and made this special donation as part of our golden anniversary celebrations.

Our President and his wife, Alan and Jean Leadbeater, went along to present the equipment to the group. In the photograph you can see (left to right) Stacey Everill, Richard Daykin, Laurie Brookes, Chris Finch, Rachelle Darling and Kevin Holloway receiving some of their new sporting equipment from Jean and Alan Leadbeater.
