Parking Around the Palace Theatre
To try and help all our audience members, we have created a map of Redditch town centre, showing parking places
around the Palace Theatre, together with information on each parking location.

Future Shows
50 Years of ROS - May 2010
We have already put the programme together for our special revue that we are performing at the Palace Theatre in May 2010. With fifty years of shows to choose from, it was a difficult decision what to include and what to omit, but we have come up with a lively programme that include lots of movement/dancing and plenty of solos, duets and company numbers.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast - November 2010
We are thrilled to be one of the first societies in the country to be allowed to perform this fabulous show. We are equally delighted to announce that our Director/Choreographer for this show will be Andrew Wilson-Jenner (who will also be spending lots of time creating some amazing costumes and sets, too!). This is such an exciting opportunity for our Society.
The King And I - November 2011
Finally (for now) we have also booked our major show for November 2011. Wanting to keep the box office 'buzzing', we have decided to perform this Rogers and Hammerstein classic which, perhaps surprisingly, Redditch Operatic has never done before.

Norman Wheeler Memorial Award 2008
 |
| (L to R) Alan Leadbeater (President), Jean
Leadbeater (2007 recipient), Bob Taylor, Ron Munro (Chairman) |
The Society have created an annual award, dedicated to the memory of our late President Norman Wheeler. This
will be presented each year at our AGM to a Society member who has, in one way or another, made an outstanding
contribution to the Society in the past year.
We are delighted to announce that the eighth deserving recipient of the Norman Wheeler Memorial Award
is Bob Taylor.
Bob has been a continuous member of ROS since it was re-founded in 1959, and has appeared in countless productions
since that time. Bob has been a committee member, is always a big part of everything
the Society does, and is always around to offer a smile, a quip, and a good
word to everybody.
Bob is also a Life Member of the Society, and this further
award acknowledges his continued work and dedication to the Society.
Jekyll & Hyde wins NODA Best Musical Award
 |
| (L to R) Alison Adams, Kevin Hirons, Norma
Kift, Alan Leadbeater, Jean Leadbeater proudly display the certificate and trophy at the awards ceremony. |
We are delighted to announce that Redditch Operatic Society's 2007 production of Jekyll & Hyde was the winner
of NODA West Midlands 'Best Musical' award in Region 10 (Worcestershire).
Alison Adams, Kevin Hirons (director), Norma Kift (musical director) and Alan and Jean Leadbeater were all present
at the awards ceremony in Sutton Coldfield to hear the announcement and to collect the award and certificate.
We are thrilled to win this award, which is a tremendous accolade for the Society.
Congratulations are due to every single member of the Society who was a part of this wonderful production. You
should all be proud of yourselves.
Well done everybody!
NODA 'Best Production' Nomination
 |
| Marcus Bridger and Pauline Sherlock with
the nomination certificate |
We were thrilled to that our November 2005 production of Happy As A Sandbag was been nominated
for 'Best Production' in our region by NODA - the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.
We attended the awards ceremony, in Sutton Coldfield, on Sunday 2 April 2006, where we learned that there were
three shows nominated in each region, of which we were one of the three. Each nominated show was presented with
a special certificate.
Sadly, we did not win the award - on this occasion, it was won by Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society with
their production of HMS Pinafore (the Australian Version).
Nevertheless, we were delighted to have been nominated, and many congratulations must go to the production team
of Marcus Bridger, Pauline Sherlock, Nigel Buckley and Tony Lacey for the nomination.
Redditch Palace Theatre Refurbishment
The Palace Theatre, in Redditch, has completed its year-long restoration
project made viable after winning a grant from the Heritage Lottery
Fund (HLF) as part of a £3.77 million
scheme to restore the Grade II listed theatre to its former glory.
During the restoration, many of the internal and external features,
such as the windows, light fixtures and decorations, were all returned to their original 1913 design. The project
also included the removal of all the 1970s additions to the building, and the creation
of a new foyer and much improved visitor facilities.
The building is one of the few remaining historic buildings in Redditch
and therefore has great importance for the town's residents. Experts
agree that the Palace is a rare example of Edwardian theatre architecture
and is one of only six examples that can be wholly attributed to
its famous designer Bertie Crewe.
The Palace is one of the finest examples of an
Edwardian theatre in the country, and is a piece of heritage for us all to
be proud of and enjoy.
